SWEDEN & THE ARCTIC CIRCLE 2027
4th August to 7th September 2027
This will be the biggest tour we have ever offered. In fact, it is more of an expedition than a tour!
Travelling overland through the Netherlands and Germany, our first main stop in Scandinavia
is in Denmark where we visit wonderful Copenhagen. We then cross the magnificent Oresund
Bridge over to Sweden where we head for the historic naval city of Karlskrona. From there
we follow the eastern archipelago up to the capital Stockholm. We then begin the leg of the
journey that skirts the Gulf of Bothnia all the way to the Arctic Circle. Our destination is Lapland
in Finland with a chance to see Santa and the Northern Lights. We then follow a different path
back via the west of Sweden as we head back into civilization. We have stop-overs in northern
Sweden to visit the ancient lands of the Sami people and then stops in Gothenburg and Malmo.
We then head back through Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.
Please note that this tour takes place outside of the main season. Campsites in the north of Sweden are likely to be quiet with some facilities (e.g. restaurants) closed. August is characterised by warm, pleasant, and sometimes rainy weather, with no snow.

DAY - TO -DAY ITINERARY

Night Before: We stay on a campsite in Kent where we provide a full briefing for the tour and advice on motorhoming on the continent in general. We offer a free night if you stay with us on our designated campsite. Please let us know if you wish to join us.
Day 1 - 2: We head to Dover for our scheduled morning ferry crossing. Travelling through France and Belgium we will spend the night near the Dutch/German border before heading off towards Bremen where we shall spend our second night.
Day 3: We drive into Scandinavia today, as we enter Denmark where we will spend the night on the coast close to historic Kolding.
Days 4 - 5: We head across two remarkable bridges today - the Great Belt Bridge in Denmark and then the stunning Oresund Bridge into Sweden. Our destination is Sweden’s third largest city, Malmo where our schedule allows for a full day in the city that has been rejuvenated with the opening of "the bridge".

Days 6 - 7: Our destination is the Baroque style city of Karlskrona, with its rich naval history. We spend two nights in this area giving the opportunity for a full day in the town or on the water.
Day 8: We head north today close to the eastern archipelago with lots of opportunities to branch off and visit the small harbour towns and communities on the east coast. We will spend a night near Soderkoping, a pretty town on the Gota Canal, famed for its ice cream!

Days 9 - 11: We have a complete change of scenery as we head into the capital Stockholm, where we spend three nights. Viewed on foot, by bus, bike or even boat, Stockholm is one of the most beautiful capitals in Europe and is often referred to as the Venice of the North. It boasts magnificent architecture, beautiful parks and dozens of museums.

Days 12 – 13: We have a couple of driving days now as we head up the coast skirting the Gulf of Bothnia. We will have two stop-overs in coastal towns along the way.
Days 14 – 15: We continue our journey north with a two-night stopover in the last of Sweden’s large towns, Lulea. The town is laid out in a grid of streets lined with wooden houses. It sits on the archipelago made up of over 1,000 small islands. It is a university town and has a good selection of shops and restaurants.
Days 16 – 18: Today we arrive on the Arctic Circle. Our destination is in Finland as we enter Lapland and the “Christmas town” of Rovaniemi. Nearby is Santaland, where Santa resides all year round receiving letters from all over the world. Please note that this is a very commercialised experience so you need to enter into the spirit of it to get the most out of it! It is out-of-season so there is virtually zero chance of snow.

Day 19 - 20: We start our journey south heading inland rather than retracing the coastal route. Here we get to see the ancient lands of the Sami people. In this area you can expect small mountains and lots of forests and lakes and long stretches of quiet roads.

Days 21 – 21: We stay near the lake at Ostersund with a two-night stopover. Here you may spot the Great Lake Monster (Storsjöodjuret) otherwise known as Sweden’s Loch Ness Monster.

Day 23 - 24: We continue our journey south with a further stopover in amongst the lakes and forests, passing Sweden's largest lake - Vanern.

Days 25 – 27: We are back in the land of living today and onto the southern archipelago where we will stay close to Sweden’s second largest city, Gothenburg. This laid-back city is known for its Dutch-style canals and open leafy boulevards.
Days 28 – 30: We head back across the Oresund Bridge to the Danish capital Copenhagen where we spend three nights. The city is home to numerous attractions including picture-postcard Nyhavn, the little mermaid statue, the Tivoli Gardens and the 1km long pedestrianised ‘Stroget’ shopping street.
Days 31 – 33: We follow a different path back with stopovers in Denmark, Germany and the Netherlands.

Day 34: We head back to our campsite just 20 minutes away from Calais Port for our final night.

Day 35: We head back to Calais Port for our morning ferry, or you can choose to take advantage of your flexible ticket and extend you stay in mainland Europe.
